Industrial Decarbonisation and Market Mechanisms Advisor - 31342
The Environment Agency is fully committed to having an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We seek diversity, embrace it, and live it, for the benefit of our staff, communities, and environment.
We have two permanent roles for Industrial Decarbonisation and Market Mechanisms Advisors within the Environment and Business Directorate (E&B). These roles involve supporting the decarbonisation of the economy through developing and advising on energy and decarbonisation regimes.
The Advisor responsibilities include:
* Supporting the development of decarbonisation and energy efficiency regimes, with a focus on specific regimes.
* Contributing to the preparation, review, and publication of technical guidance.
* Advising on issues during regime operation, including influencing government policies on decarbonisation.
This involves networking with government officials and industry stakeholders, preparing briefings, and supporting national engagement. A key part of the work is monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of emissions, energy, and materials to ensure accurate measurement and reporting.
You will also work on developing existing and new regulatory regimes, such as expanding UK ETS to maritime sectors and regulating heat networks under upcoming UK Heat Network Zoning Regulations.
The work is varied and reactive, requiring swift responses to deadlines.
The team leads on UK policies to reduce industrial greenhouse gases, including the UK Emissions Trading Scheme, low carbon industrial clusters, and other environmental schemes.
We promote an inclusive, supportive culture where everyone feels valued. We use evidence, expertise, engagement, and innovation to support policy, legislation, and resource securing.
