Overview
An exciting opportunity within the Substance Misuse Team at NNUH to recruit an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) who will also be part of the wider Complex Health Hub. The post involves leading drug and alcohol assessments and treatments within the hospital, supporting patients in their recovery, including Opiate Substitution Treatment and alcohol detoxification, and working with a multidisciplinary team to provide coordinated, integrated care.
Responsibilities
* Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments of patients presenting with acute illness or injury who are also experiencing difficulties from drugs and alcohol usage.
* Clinically examine and assess patient needs from physiological and psychological perspectives, and plan clinical care accordingly.
* Deliver appropriate treatment, management plans, and clinical interventions within your scope of practice.
* Prioritise patient needs based on clinical urgency and safety.
* Prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, in accordance with evidence-based practice, national guidelines, and within scope of practice.
* Use clinical information to adjust care and treatment including medications or provide onward referral to appropriate health professionals.
* Demonstrate a commitment to recovery and a person-centred, trauma-informed approach.
* Exercise a high degree of professional autonomy to make critical judgements and meet service expectations.
* Assimilate highly complex information autonomously to reach differential diagnoses, order investigations, and begin first-line treatments in line with local and national guidelines.
* Perform comprehensive mental health and substance misuse histories and liaise with community and Mental Health services to provide holistic assessments.
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist nursing provision autonomously as a clinical expert.
* Develop and implement specialist nursing protocols and nurse-led initiatives, including clinics.
* Communicate sensitive condition-related information to patients and relatives, providing ongoing support and reassurance.
* Lead on setting, implementing and monitoring evidence-based practice within the service.
* Assess incoming referrals, undertake clinical, psychological and social assessments, interpret results, and maintain accurate documentation with multi-professional colleagues as indicated.

* The post holder will be expected to work under supervision of the Senior ANP and will be supported by the multidisciplinary team and senior medical staff.
