An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Support Worker to join us in our Out of Hours Team at Hampshire County Council.

The Role:

Are you looking for a challenging and diverse role working as part of a friendly and supportive team, with an opportunity to make a real difference?

We believe in helping families to be stronger together, creating and embedding sustainable change to build resilience, and improving outcomes for children, young people and vulnerable adults. As an Out of Hours Support Worker working primarily from the office, you will be at the forefront of this support, working with families with children with multiple and complex needs and with vulnerable adults. This will include working with adolescents, children with disabilities, and adults with social care and support needs.

Your intervention could make all the difference in ensuring that children can remain safely at home with their family, and the safety of vulnerable adults within the community. You could be supporting parents who have experienced significant trauma themselves which is affecting their ability to care for their children properly, through to supporting an elderly person to remain in their home with the appropriate support. You will be part of a larger multi-disciplinary hub who works collaboratively with each other and the family to deliver a whole family approach and keeping vulnerable adults and children safe within their communities.

As, an Out of Hours service, you will be required to work a shift pattern to respond to the demands of the service. Your working pattern will include a variety of evenings, weekends, overnights shifts and bank holidays for which enhancements will be paid in line with the Hampshire County Council salary policy. As you will be working with vulnerable people across a geographical area, you must also be able to meet the travel requirements of the role.

The office base is currently in Fareham but is due to be relocated to Havant, on a date yet to be confirmed.

What you’ll do:

* Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide Adults, children and their families with advice and support for a wide range of needs

* Understand the corporate and statutory frameworks, such as anti-discriminatory practice, health and safety, sustainability and demonstrate commitment to them in daily working practice, while ensuring that any issues are challenged appropriately

* Adhere to all Hampshire County Council child protection policies and adult safeguarding policies, if required, raising concerns accordingly

* Work with families across and vulnerable adults across a designated geographical area and providing support where most needed

* Respond to families and vulnerable adults in crisis and providing support, often remotely

* Liaise with partner agencies to gather and share information

* Refer to other relevant agencies where appropriate to ensure all risks and needs are considered

* Establish and maintain mutual trust with clients, carers and families

What we’re looking for:

* Excellent communication, mediation and negotiation skills

* Ability to build effective relationships with team members, children, families and vulnerable adults and work in an inclusive/non-discriminatory manner

* Ability to work on your own initiative and as a team member

* Ability to present information verbally and in writing, and construct coherent, concise and jargon free reports

* Experience of working directly with children, families and vulnerable adults

* Experience in understanding the needs of children, families and vulnerable adults

* Competent with IT systems

* NVQ level 3, or equivalent in Social Care

* Understand data protection/confidentiality and need for accurate and timely recording

* Highly organised and able to manage time and conflicting demands effectively
