Transport Contract Manager – Full Time – Accessible Transport Services – Rufford
Salary: £32,062–£36,363 per annum | Employment: Permanent, Full Time, 37 hours per week | Location: Station Road, Rufford, L40 1TB
Job Description
A Transport Contract Manager will work within the Accessible Transport Services Team based in the Chorley & West Lancashire areas of the County. The role involves planning and resourcing journeys for Home to School (SEN and disabilities) and Adult Day Care transport services, using the council’s fleet and approved private hire and taxi suppliers.
Key responsibilities include:
* Managing a large portfolio of transport contracts, monitoring performance, reviewing efficiency and cost‑effectiveness and ensuring compliance.
* Building strong network relationships with authority departments, schools and daytime support centres.
* Managing a team of Passenger Assistants, including recruitment, induction, work allocation, performance appraisals, training plans and monitoring working time and pay records.
* Handling absence management and low‑level disciplinary issues.
Qualifications and Experience
* Excellent communication, organisational and people skills.
* Strong knowledge of IT systems – Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and the ability to learn new specialist software.
* Experience in staff and contract management with the ability to prioritise a varied workload.
* Aware and empathetic of the needs of people with special educational needs or disabilities and their families.
* Leadership, supervision and organisational skills for managing a team.
