Job Summary
We are seeking a Theatre Support Worker at Band 2 to join our busy teams within our purpose built Main and Day Care Unit Operating Theatre Suites. As well as day surgery and obstetrics you will gain experience in a variety of specialties: Colorectal, Urology, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Breast, Orthopaedics, Trauma, ENT and Dental and Ophthalmic. You will need to be flexible, adaptable and be able to work under pressure. To apply for the Band 2 post, no previous experience is necessary as training will be given. As a department, we actively support formal and informal training and development.
Main Duties
* Providing support for the delivery of high quality care to patients within the theatre complex.
* Working as part of the multidisciplinary team in the theatre.
* Ensuring patient care is non-discriminatory and non-prejudicial.
* Carrying out tasks in accordance with unit operating standards and policies.
* Preparing and maintaining the theatre and space for surgery.
* Creating a calm, supportive and welcoming atmosphere for all patients during their waiting period pre-operatively.
* Participating in on‑call rotas or cross‑site work where necessary.
* Carrying out other duties as required by Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust within the post’s grading.
Person Specification
Education and Training
* Educated up to GCSE standard including Maths and English or equivalent.
* Care Certificate, or willing to work towards completion within 12 weeks of start date.
Essential Skills
* Good standard of literacy and numeracy.
* Good communication skills.
* Evidence of ability to learn.
* Good record keeping.
* Team player.
Desirable Skills
* Computer skills.
* Manual handling awareness.
* Basic life support.
Experience
* Relevant work or life experience with evidence of significance to the post.
Desirable Experience
* Evidence of relevant past employment linked to healthcare.
* Previous theatre experience.
