About the Role:
We're looking for a Third Line Systems Administrator to join a dynamic managed hosting provider, acting as the final point of escalation for complex infrastructure issues. You'll play a key part in improving, automating, and optimising core systems - making a genuine impact in a business that values technical ownership and continuous evolution.
This is a hands-on, senior-level role suited to engineers with strong experience in Linux, VMware, Cisco, and infrastructure automation, ideally in a managed services or hosting environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Serve as the final escalation point for critical infrastructure incidents and issues
2. Administer and maintain Linux systems (RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu)
3. Manage virtualisation environments (VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter)
4. Support and configure Cisco network infrastructure (routing, switching, firewalls)
5. Drive improvements through automation (Bash, Python, Ansible, Puppet)
6. Lead infrastructure upgrade and optimisation projects
7. Work closely with internal teams and clients to ensure uptime and performance
8. Contribute to disaster recovery planning, monitoring, and best practice documentation
9. Participate in an on-call rota
What We're Looking For:
10. Proven 3rd line / senior systems admin experience in a hosting or MSP setting
11. Deep understanding of Linux server administration
12. Strong VMware virtualisation skills
13. Cisco networking knowledge (ideally CCNA or equivalent)
14. Experience automating infrastructure with scripting or config management tools
15. Ability to take ownership, troubleshoot end-to-end, and drive real change
Desirable Extras:
16. Public cloud experience (AWS, Azure, OpenStack)
17. Storage (SAN/NAS) and backup tools (Veeam, Rubrik)
18. Monitoring platforms (Zabbix, PRTG, Nagios)
