Main duties and responsibilities
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time, band 5, practice educator to join our Neonatal Education Team in Southampton. You will support the development of new and junior staff within the neonatal unit. Responsibilities include facilitating clinical learning, supervising practice in clinical settings, and delivering skills training with those on the QIS Foundation programme. You will work closely with the Lead Educator and other practice educators within the unit.
You will hold the Neonatal Qualified in Speciality Qualification and have experience in caring for complex babies requiring ventilatory/respiratory support, including high frequency oscillation ventilation and nitric oxide. Previous experience of teaching students and staff in clinical practice would be advantageous.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
Within this role you will support and facilitate clinical learning within Neonatal services which will enhance the quality of care for babies and their families. You will facilitate multi-disciplinary and inter-departmental learning and simulation activities, including classroom-based teaching. You will act as a resource and role model for staff on all aspects of clinical education.
You will have the following qualifications / experience
* Registered Nurse (Adult or Child) or Registered Midwife
* Specialist Neonatal Qualified in Speciality
* First level degree preferable and/or relevant neonatal experience
* Evidence of mentor/practice assessor/coaching qualification and/or evidence of supporting learners in clinical practice
* Evidence of ongoing professional development
* Neonatal Life Support qualification
* Experience as a band 5 Qualified in Speciality neonatal nurse
* Ability to be flexible to meet the needs of the team
Person specification
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Essential criteria
* Registered Nurse (Adult or Child) on Part 1 of the NMC register or Registered Midwife
* Degree qualification or relevant equivalent experience
* Experience of clinical teaching within the neonatal specialty
* Specialist Neonatal Qualified in Speciality
* Completion of Neonatal Life Support qualification
* Has experience working within a busy neonatal unit
* Evidence of ongoing development and education
* Experience of educating and developing staff
