The Role
Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-driven Mechanical Estimator to join their commercial team. Working alongside an established Electrical Estimator, you will be responsible for compiling the mechanical elements of combined M&E tenders.
This role focuses solely on mechanical building services, including HVAC, BCW, LTHW, pipework, ventilation, plumbing, and associated systems. You will play a key role in securing new projects and supporting the company’s continued and sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities

Reviewing and interpreting tender documentation, specifications, schedules, and design drawings
*
Producing accurate material and labour take-offs for mechanical systems including HVAC, LTHW, BCW, plumbing, and ventilation
*
Preparing detailed cost estimates, bills of quantities, and pricing schedules
*
Requesting, sourcing, and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations
*
Supporting bid development, including proposals, clarifications, and value engineering options
*
Assessing project risks and cost impacts to deliver commercially robust estimates
*
Maintaining pricing libraries to ensure consistency and accuracy
*
Collaborating closely with project management, engineering, and procurement teams during tender and handover stages
*
Attending pre-tender meetings, site visits, and client briefings where required
*
Tracking completed project performance against original estimates to support continuous improvement
Skills & Qualifications
Essential:
*
Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator within the UK construction or building services sector
*
Strong understanding of mechanical systems including HVAC, chilled water, LTHW, plumbing, ventilation, and gas
*
Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and schematics
*
Competence with estimating software and digital tools (e.g. Bluebeam, Trimble/Accubid, Esti-Mate, PlanSwift) and Microsoft Excel
*
Excellent numerical, analytical, and attention-to-detail skills
*
Strong communication skills with good commercial awareness
*
Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
Desirable:
*
HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline
*
Knowledge of relevant UK standards, building regulations, and CIBSE guidance
*
Experience delivering projects across commercial, healthcare, residential, education, or industrial sectors
*
Experience using Simpro CRM
