Marketing & Audience Development Officer
This role is part of the University of Sheffield Performance Venues team which manages live event activity in three principal venues. The cultural output contributes to audience connection and civic engagement.
Pay Range
The University of Sheffield provides an initial salary band for this part‑time role. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.
Salary: £27,319 – £31,236 per annum (pro rata), with potential to progress to £33,951 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution.

Overview
The Marketing and Audience Development Officer oversees and drives marketing activity for two curated performance festivals – the Enable US Project and University of Sheffield Concerts – and supports external events across three venues. The role shapes the public face of Performance Venues and manages social media and related administration. The Officer also contributes to the in‑house student internship scheme.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Devise and implement marketing campaign plans for all three programmes, allocating work into clear actions and objectives to improve brand awareness and audience engagement.
* Assist in the management, production and distribution of printed marketing collateral, including season brochures, print advertising and direct mail.
* Create and edit engaging marketing copy for a variety of sources.
* Write and issue press releases, proactively updating the press database and building media relationships.
* Collaborate with internal stakeholders to market events to university staff and students.
* Plan digital and online marketing campaigns, including e‑campaigns, social media, online listings and paid advertising initiatives.
* Use mailing software to design e‑campaigns and analyse data with reporting tools.
* Reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of all marketing activity, reporting recommendations to the Head of Performance Venues and Programme Leads.
* Work independently to oversee marketing priorities and resources, delivering an effective marketing cycle each year.
* Analyse customer data with Programme Leads to develop audience insights for acquisition and retention strategies.
* Develop new relationship marketing approaches with ambassador and loyalty initiatives.
* Provide technical guidance and day‑to‑day task management to the Digital Media Officer and Audience Development Officer (both student interns).
* Carry out other duties commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.

Criteria
* Good knowledge of and a passion for a wide range of live performance genres.
* Experience of developing marketing strategy based on social media and ticket data to build defined audiences.
* Experience with social media platforms and backend advertising software.
* Experience building mailing lists and generating engaging segmented mailouts.
* Excellent communication skills and experience writing engaging copy for advertising, with strong proofreading skills.
* Experience with photo‑editing and publishing software e.g. Canva, Adobe suite.
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of new marketing channels and approaches.
* Experience marketing to audiences across performance types and genres.
* Desirable: Experience and enthusiasm for training and encouraging interns.
