Independent Travel Trainer / Guide Trainer
Hours: 37 hours per week
If you are an enthusiastic trainer who would like to plan and deliver courses to Passenger Assistants/ Drivers and teach them practical skills to support our young people on their journey to and from school, we would love to hear from you.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Independent Travel Trainer/Guide Trainer to join our team and make a positive difference for children, young people and adults with SEND within Solihull.
Our Independent Travel Training Team is made up of approximately 300 passenger assistants and drivers, all who provide invaluable support and assistance to children and young people with Special Educational Needs on their journey to and from school.
In this key role as a Guide Trainer, you will be required to deliver PATS course content to all of our Passenger Assistants, to do this you will need to successfully complete the Passenger Assistance Training Scheme (PATS) (with exam).
You will also draw on your training experience to create additional bespoke training packages for Passenger Assistants, that are tailored to the needs of individuals who use their transport, and to equip Passenger Assistants with the confidence and knowledge to support students effectively.
Working directly with young people with special educational needs, you will also be responsible for providing 1:1 home to school travel training, positively promoting the Solihull Travel Training Scheme to children, young people, their families, schools and other agencies and developing and maintaining good working relationships with Solihull Schools.
To be successful in the role you will be educated to degree level or able to demonstrate significant relevant experience, as well have as a teaching or training qualification at level 3 award or equivalent.
You will also need:
* Experience of working with adults, young people or children with special educational needs.
* Experience of developing, co-ordinating and delivering training packages.
* Great written and spoken communication skills.
* Experience of building effective relationships with vulnerable and / or socially excluded young people and their families.
* A flexible approach to working hours, with the ability to travel across the Borough and work from a variety of locations, to support young people and adults into education/employment. This will include early morning starts.
* A driving licence and car owner/use of suitable vehicle. Reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled applicants where required.
