An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Tax Accountant to join our clients Finance Team.

The Tax Accountant role is a key role required to support the Tax Manager to ensure that all of the tax compliance requirements are met. The Tax Accountant will also assist the Tax Manager with identifying opportunities to reduce the tax burden on the group and to improve efficiencies in the current tax processes. There will also be an opportunity to work with the Tax Manager to assist Berkshire Hathaway International US’s group tax team to meet their UK investments tax compliance requirements. In addition, the Tax Accountant will also be encouraged to become involved (together with the Tax Manager) and be an active member of the Electricity Tax Industry Forum.
Key Responsibilities
Using your experience and commercial acumen you will assist with the following tasks:
* Preparation of VAT, corporation tax, CIS and tied oil returns for submission to HMRC to ensure the statutory tax deadlines are met.
* Preparation of the IFRS current and deferred tax disclosures for the purposes of the UK statutory accounts
* Control of US GAAP tax accounting entries.
* Reconciliation of the apprenticeship levy account and to assist in maximising the use of the Apprenticeship levy funds
* Preparation of quarterly corporation tax payment on account calculation.
* Preparation of corporation tax and VAT monthly control accounts
* Preparation of annual PSA calculation for submission to HMRC.
* Assist the Tax Manager with the Business Risk Review process, adhoc HMRC correspondence and developing a relationship with the Customer Compliance Manager.
* Working together with the Tax Manager to review all tax processes with a view to improving efficiencies and to undertake periodic internal reviews of tax controls and processes to ensure that our tax liabilities our accurately reported.
* Providing tax support to the wider business and to deal with ad hoc questions which are raised in respect of VAT and PAYE.
* Assisting the Tax Manager with providing UK tax support to the Berkshire Hathaway International US’s group tax team in respect of their UK investments.
* Assisting the Tax Manager to ensure tax governance requirements (such as SAO, CCO etc) are met.
* Strong analytical and numerical skills
* Strong IT skills (Excel, Word, Visio, MS Project and Power Point
* Excellent planning, organisation prioritisation and attention to detail
* Time management and delivery of tasks to deadlines
* Good interpersonal skills and be able to cross collaborate working with senior managers
* Strong team player with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines
* Willingness to learn new skills and to undertake tax technical research

* Exposure to tax through studies/ prior employment experience
* Strong time management skills and ability to work to deadlines
* Able to explain and communicate effectively to the business in respect of tax matters
* Ability to undertake research and to summarise the outcome of the research in a clear and concise manner

* ATT/CTA
* Experience of VAT and corporation tax
