Brief Description
HGV mechanic/OTP engineer
Service, repair, maintain various HGV and OTP plant and equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with the required specifications and legal requirements.
About The Role (External)
Here are some of the duties your role will include:
* Maintenance, service and repair of Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) and On-Track Plant (OTP) in accordance with the machine service schedule as defined for that vehicle/machine/equipment.
* Compliance with all applicable DVSA legislation for road vehicles and Railway Group Standards, Network Rail Standards and M&EE Codes of Practice as are applicable to the work being carried out on OTP.
* Will be required to work nights, weekends and on call as required and to include on‑site fitter cover, and work away from home when required (Scotland only). Transport and accommodation will be provided along with tools, equipment and IT/comms equipment as required.
* Ability to work unsupervised at times and maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment always.
* Report any accidents or incidents in accordance with company and industry procedures and always use and maintain PPE in a clean condition.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
* Good understanding of HGV/OTP maintenance requirements.
* Ability to use vehicle diagnostics tools.
* Ability to read and correctly interpret manufacturing drawings and instructions for diagnostics and fault repairs.
* Ability to work to appropriate quality standards with high attention to detail in line with targets and time deadlines.
* Ability and willingness to follow verbal and written instructions.
* Good team and interpersonal skills.
What you will bring to the role
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in mechanical or electrical engineering, HGV (IRTEC) and vehicle diagnostics.
* Hold RPA Rail Plant Maintenance or work towards (units 1 to 11).
* Personal Track Safety (PTS) or complete.
* Completion of Service Sheets and job cards electronically.
Alongside, knowledge of the below subjects
* Hydraulics and pneumatics.
* Electrics and engine diagnostics.
* OEM Servicing and brake testing.
* Measurement and Testing of HGV and OTP.
It’s desirable if you have it to help give you context to the role
* HGV Class C Driving Competency.
* LOLER/PUWER examiner.
* Word and Excel computer skills.
