Job overview

We are looking for an antifungal stewardship advanced pharmacist to join our diverse multidisciplinary team specialising in antimicrobial stewardship for both adults and paediatrics.


Main duties of the job

* Work as part of the multidisciplinary antimicrobial stewardship team within the Trust to deliver the AMS improvement plan.
* Support the Consultant Pharmacist for AMS, Lead Consultant Microbiology / Infectious Diseases, other Microbiology / Infectious Diseases Consultants and Infection Prevention and Control team in developing a Trust-wide culture that reduces healthcare-associated infection and supports excellent antimicrobial prescribing.
* Promote judicious use of antifungals by developing and implementing evidence-based antifungal guidance based on local and national resistance patterns.
* Coordinate the development of an enhanced prescribing surveillance and feedback system to clinicians about antifungal prescribing (adult and paediatrics).
* Plan and undertake or support others in the Trust to undertake clinical audit relating to antimicrobial use.
* Be line manager for the AMS band 7 pharmacists.
* Enhance links and collaboration between Pharmacy, Microbiology and other specialist teams within the Trust.
* Support the Trust strategy for education and training in relation to antimicrobial prescribing, focusing on antifungal prescribing, monitoring and patient education.
* Contribute to national and international professional groups leading on the development of new methods of diagnosis and treatment of invasive fungal infections and antifungal stewardship strategies.


Person specification

* Qualified to master’s degree level (4 year MPharm) or equivalent Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
* Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience.
* Experience of working as a clinical pharmacist at a high level in a variety of clinical areas.
* Experience of working as a clinical pharmacist in relevant clinical area.
* Accredited tutor for Cardiff University Clinical Pharmacy Diploma (or meets criteria to become accredited if an accredited tutor for another diploma).
* Problem identification and solving skills with an ability to prioritise effectively.
* Ability to make decisions.
* Well organised.
* Good written and oral communication skills.
* Good interpersonal skills including being assertive.
* Professional and personal integrity.
* Membership of regional/national/international specialist interest group.
* Contributing to publications or conference presentations at least at a regional level.
* Evidence of contribution to regional specialist interest groups.
* Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team.
* Demonstrable awareness of key drivers for the NHS.
* Demonstrable awareness of financial pressures/constraints within the NHS.
* Experience of developing drug protocols or contributing to formulary development.
* Experience of preparing budgetary reports for clinical areas.
* Involvement in developing a service within pharmacy.
* Experience of undertaking and supervising audits or drug use evaluations.
* Ability to work in a team as well as autonomously and can delegate authority appropriately.
* Must demonstrate flexibility in working practices.
* Experience of teaching and tutoring.
* Enthusiastic and self-motivated.
* Capable of working under pressure.
* Must show commitment.
* MSc in Clinical Pharmacy.
* Involvement in a pharmacist-led outpatient clinic.
* Contributing to publications or conference presentations at national/international level.
* Evidence of contribution to national/international specialist interest groups.
* Accredited non‑medical prescriber.
* Involvement in developing a multi‑disciplinary service.
* Experience of undertaking practice research.


Other information

Relevant working hours: 37.5 hours per week, participation in pharmacy late-night rotas, part of the 6 day a week AMS work (Monday to Saturday 9am‑5pm). The post is subject to a 6‑month probationary period unless it is your current role.
