The Nuclear Medicine Department provides highly specialised diagnostic services across South West Wales. As a key member of this expert multidisciplinary team, the post holder will contribute to the delivery of high-quality bone density (DXA) and NM imaging services.
The successful candidate will independently perform and support a wide range of diagnostic procedures for patients with diverse clinical needs, ensuring the highest standards of technical accuracy, patient care, and safety.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Delivering high-quality DXA imaging, ensuring adherence to departmental and national standards and guidelines.
2. Assessing complex imaging outputs to verify technical accuracy and support clinical interpretation.
3. Providing compassionate care, advice, and support to patients, ensuring appropriate patient preparation.
4. Working autonomously within scope of competence, recognising limitations and escalating clinical or technical issues to senior staff as appropriate.
5. Supporting patients with physical or cognitive impairments, employing empathy, tact, and excellent communication skills to facilitate cooperation and comfort during procedures.
6. Performing safe and effective manual handling, including for critically ill or immobile patients, and complying with infection prevention and control procedures.
Main duties of the job
This is a full-time, Fixed-term for 12 months Band 5 position within the Nuclear Medicine Department, primarily based at Singleton Hospital. The post-holder will play a key role in supporting DXA and imaging services, ensuring adequate staffing levels across the department. Following a period of training, the successful candidate will contribute to DXA scanning sessions during weekdays and evening lists, and may also be required to support the DXA mobile unit when service needs arise.
We are seeking an exceptionally motivated Radiographer or Clinical Technologist to join our friendly and dynamic team. The post-holder will provide technical and professional support to the DXA service, with opportunities to gain experience across the full range of Nuclear Medicine diagnostic and therapeutic services. Nuclear Medicine at Singleton Hospital is a supportive and progressive service, committed to high standards of patient care and continuous professional development.
The successful candidate will be required to hold, or work towards, HCPC or RCT professional registration during the course of their employment.
The ability to travel between sites in a timely manner and to work flexibly, including participation in evening DXA lists and occasional mobile service support, is essential for this role.
This is a Fixed Term for 12 months due to needs of service.
