Farm Animal Technician – Grade 5
£29,588 - £33,951 per annum, plus additional weekend paid overtime.
This is an interesting and varied role which would suit someone confident and competent around farm livestock, able to prioritise their work unsupervised and maintain high standards of organisation, cleanliness and biosecurity.
The job involves working alongside veterinary surgeons and students, supporting teaching of animal handling and husbandry tasks e.g. disbudding. You will be responsible for the husbandry of our in‑patients, running the yard and coordinating health and safety for the department.
As the departmental health and safety co‑ordinator you will develop risk assessments, ensure COSHH reports are complete and manage the safety plan for the department. Although previous experience is desirable, willingness to promote safety and keep up to date in this area are most important.
You will receive specific training as well as support from the health and safety co‑ordinator for the site. Some experience of foot trimming and disbudding would be advantageous but training can be provided.
Normal working hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, with weekend paid overtime required on a rota basis. Other opportunities for overtime may arise at the university farms.
