Purpose of the role
Business activity at Garmin Swansea has grown significantly over the past 12 months, placing increased demands on the Engineering function. To maintain our high standards and effectively support expanding production, we require a Process Engineer to ensure operational efficiency and continued product excellence.
You will support the design, optimisation, and control of manufacturing processes to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role focuses on improving process performance, reducing variability, and implementing cost-effective solutions. Working cross-functionally with production, maintenance, quality, and R&D teams, the Process Engineer drives continuous improvement, supports & leads new product introductions, and ensures compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Duties will include:
Collaborate with the manufacturing & design team to make products easier to build (Poke Yoke, etc)
Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing processes for efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
Implement Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
Conduct time, motion, and workflow studies to optimise production
Establish and track key process parameters and performance indicators (KPIs).
Troubleshoot process deviations and identify root causes.
Maintain process documentation, procedures and Method Manuals.
Specify, select, and commission new equipment and process technologies, including automation of new & existing processes.
Collaborate with engineering teams on equipment reliability and upgrades.
Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements in process design and operation.
Support quality assurance by ensuring processes meet product specifications and standards.
Analyse production data to reduce scrap, rework, and downtime.
Lead or participate in process validation and capability studies.
Work closely with production, maintenance, R&D, and supply chain teams.
Provide technical support and training to operators and technicians.
Participate & lead new product introduction (NPI) and scale-up activities.
Promote safe work practices and process safety management
Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions where required.
Design & develop production jigs, fixtures & tooling
Desired Experience / Education
Experience in electronics manufacturing
Degree, HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
Strong analytical skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong technical, electrical and mechanical aptitude in relation to tools, test/measurement devices and the operating of electrical equipment.
