Job overview

Are you passionate about education?

Do you want to make a difference to patient care and staff development?

Hi there, my name is Kirstie and I am the Lead for Clinical Educator Services, here at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

I am recruiting to two Band 6 Clinical Educator posts to join our team of passionate educators who are committed to making a difference every day. We are seeking one highly motivated registered Midwife and one highly motivated Nurse or Allied Health Professional to support education and workforce development across the service.

In this role, you will design and deliver specialist clinical skills training that supports safe, effective patient care across our departments. You will work closely with ward managers, clinical teams and the wider Education Team to assess competence, develop learners and staff, whilst responding to emerging risks in practice.

This is a cross-site post. You must hold current NMC or HCPC registration and have strong post-registration clinical experience.

If you care about developing others, improving standards and influencing patient safety through education, I would welcome your application and I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Main duties of the job

Midwifery Clinical Educator

In this role, you’ll support the learning and development of our maternity workforce, helping to build confidence and competence across the service. You’ll monitor and report on training compliance, while supporting the planning, delivery and evaluation of training in line with identified learning needs. This includes skills drills, practical teaching and education sessions for both staff and students in practice.

You’ll work closely with the Lead Maternity Clinical Educator to support multidisciplinary training and help create a positive learning environment. A key part of the role is being visible in clinical areas, supporting staff day to day, particularly newly recruited midwives, and acting as a role model in practice.

You’ll also contribute to developing learning opportunities, support quality assurance work linked to education programmes, and help make sure training meets professional standards. Alongside this, you’ll be involved in developing midwifery education programmes, contributing to guidelines and policies, and leading on induction, orientation and ongoing support for new starters.

Nursing / AHP Clinical Educator

In this role, you will support safe, effective care by developing the confidence and competence of our clinical teams.

You will deliver and assess clinical skills training across departments, helping staff build the knowledge and practical skills they need in their day-to-day roles. You’ll work closely with ward managers to identify learning needs, address gaps and support staff to achieve and maintain competency in practice.

You will lead and contribute to local induction programmes, helping new and existing staff feel supported and well prepared. You’ll also respond to clinical incidents and safety alerts by adapting training where needed, keeping education aligned with service priorities and patient safety standards.

You will provide constructive feedback, support development plans and encourage ongoing professional development. You’ll also support statutory and mandatory training compliance, maintain accurate training records and contribute to the development of competencies, guidance and policies.

Most importantly, both roles will work closely with teams in clinical areas, building strong relationships and promoting a supportive learning culture where staff and learners feel confident to grow and develop.

Working for our organisation

We have 10,000 fantastic people working hard to deliver quality services to our patients. Whatever your role, you help look after 370,000 people in our local area & give specialist care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire & Cumbria.

Working with us gives you the knowledge and sense of pride that every activity you do genuinely does make a difference to support our patients & staff, ensuring we keep thriving & delivering outstanding healthcare right across our local towns.

You’ll have access to varied development opportunities, learn new skills, meet fab people & do things you’d never have done. You’ll learn about working in a hospital, interacting with people from all different roles to build skills & enhance your career path.

You’ll make an impact, be challenged to think differently, be bold & help innovate to keep improving things. Everything we do centres around patient care which means your role is pivotal and something really to be proud of.
