Passionate about shaping a sustainable future? Join us in advancing the Circular Economy and solving global issues around resource resilience and Net Zero

We welcome applicants with expertise in engineering, computer science, or data analytics to join our supportive School in vibrant Brighton. You'll be part of an innovative, collaborative environment that values real-world impact.

We are working in partnership with six other universities-Birmingham, Sheffield, Strathclyde, Leeds, Loughborough, and the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC)- and cooperating with numerous industry partners, as part of the EPSRC Manufacturing Research Hub in Robotics, Automation & Smart Machine Enabled Sustainable Circular Manufacturing & Materials (RESCu-M²). This £11 million investment supports fundamental research to deliver transformative impact in sustainable manufacturing.

The project will develop a decision-making solution to enhance the efficiency of circular manufacturing, focusing on Re-X processes (remanufacturing, refurbishment, repair, reuse, and recycling). Using advanced sensing technologies and data analytics, the project will deliver insights to support informed decision-making in end-of-life product assessment, Re-X process optimisation, and quality assurance. The project also encourages high-value circular practices in sectors like medical technology, energy, and large-scale infrastructure.

To be successful in this role, you should have:
* Up-to-date and in-depth knowledge in engineering, computer science, and data analytics.
* Understanding of equality of opportunity, academic integrity, and issues related to circular manufacturing
* Strong IT and programming skills (e.g., Python, Visual Studio, cloud-based applications).
* Knowledge of manufacturing processes, technologies, and operations, or familiarity with Circular Economy principles, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and SQL databases.
* A relevant degree in Engineering, computer science and data analytics or a closely related subject and a postgraduate qualification in the relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.
This post is offered on a full-time (1.0 FTE) basis; however, job share applications are welcome. We offer a range of benefits, including opportunities for hybrid/remote working, a generous pension scheme, and additional leave during the festive period.
