We are looking for graduates with curiosity, personal drive and technical knowhow to join our Specialist Technology, Analytics and Research (STAR) team as Structural and Mechanical Engineers. Our team brings together engineers of the highest technical calibre to develop inventive, practical and sustainable solutions to complex problems. Our projects are diverse and often relate to buildings, infrastructure, offshore renewable energy, and electric vehicles, giving our graduate engineers the opportunity to develop a broad range of expertise while working alongside experts in their fields.
The Opportunity
A successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of first principles engineering, an interest in advanced analysis, and be open to diverse applications of these. They should be able to demonstrate aptitude and enthusiasm for digital technologies such as scripting and programming.
Day‑to‑day responsibilities
 * Conduct finite element analysis.
 * Prepare structural calculations and structural design.
 * Complete research.
 * Visit sites and perform inspections, surveys and monitoring.
 * Develop digital tools.
 * Write reports and prepare presentations.
 * Attend meetings and liaise with clients.
 * Support senior members of the team.
Our graduate engineers will follow Arup's engineering institution‑accredited graduate training scheme and will be supported and mentored towards achieving Chartered Engineer status.
The role is available in both the Birmingham and London offices. The STAR team shares resources across these locations meaning that the same project opportunities are available in both offices.
Is this role right for you?
We are looking for self‑starting graduates with a passion for problem solving who combine these skills with a willingness to learn about the industry and a desire to deliver excellent services for clients. You should have experience of, or an interest in, numerical analysis and simulation.
Qualifications
Candidates should have, or be studying towards, an engineering degree at master’s level, achieving a 2:1/60% or higher or equivalent. The degree may be in engineering science, mechanical, structural, civil, aeronautical or aerospace engineering.
We expect you to have taken at least one module in your third or fourth year covering one or more of the following areas and to have achieved a grade of 2:1 or above:
 * Structural analysis
 * Computational analysis / finite element methods
 * Dynamics / vibration
 * Mechanics of solids
 * Earthquake engineering
 * Structural assessment of existing buildings
