Pastoral / Student Support Officer - Secondary Schools (Greater Manchester)
Do you have a heart for supporting young people and experience in pastoral, welfare, safeguarding, or behaviour work? Cover People are placing Pastoral / Student Support Officers in secondary schools across Tameside, Stockport and South Manchester. Roles may be short or long term, depending on school needs and staffing gaps.
You'll work in schools that prioritise student wellbeing, inclusion, and safeguarding, often in diverse and dynamic communities.
Key Responsibilities
* Support students with behavioural, emotional, or social challenges
* Run restorative conversations, mentor pupils, support reintegration
* Liaise with teachers, SEND / inclusion teams, external agencies
* Monitor attendance, punctuality, and student welfare concerns
* Assist in designing interventions or programmes to engage and support students
* Participate in pastoral meetings, parent meetings, and safeguarding briefings
Essential Criteria
* Experience in pastoral care, youth work, behaviour mentoring, or similar
* Knowledge of safeguarding, safeguarding legislation, and reporting
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* Calm under pressure, resilience, confidence in de‑escalation
* Right to work in the UK
