This role would suit a proven engineering leader with a strong technical background gained within the EV powertrain domain.
Most important: The role requires strong technical knowledge of electrified powertrains (electric motor and/or inverter) and experience of bringing such products into production.
This position is within an established, innovative automotive technology company. As chief engineer, you will collaborate with the CTO and a team of multidisciplinary engineers to transition prototype and concept electric powertrain systems into production. This will require an excellent understanding of DFM, NPI, PPAP, and IATF16949 processes and systems.
* Excellent technical leadership skills – mentoring and guiding engineers
* Strong technical expertise – deep understanding of electric powertrain / EDU systems (electric motor, inverter, etc.) with an appreciation of electronics, mechanical engineering, and software
* Product delivery – proven experience of taking electric powertrain / e-motors / inverters from prototype to manufacturing
* Comprehensive knowledge of DFM, NPI, PPAP, and IATF16949 standards
You will work with a team of engineers to develop new concepts, designs, and research projects through to validated prototypes. Your role will be to facilitate the transition of these prototypes into medium to high volume production, requiring a strong understanding of electric vehicle powertrain components and design, including electric motors and inverters, as well as DFM and NPI processes.
Additionally, a solid understanding of PPAP and IATF16949 standards is essential.
NOTE: Some travel will be required to visit customers and facilities in Europe and Asia (typically 1-2 times per quarter).
Chief Engineer - Skills and Experience Required:
* A degree or master's in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., automotive, electronic, software engineering)
* Excellent technical leadership and customer management skills
* Deep technical expertise in electric powertrain / EDU systems (electric motor, inverter, etc.)
* Experience in taking electric powertrain / e-motors / inverters from prototype to production, preferably in the automotive or e-mobility sectors
* Strong knowledge of DFM, NPI, PPAP, and IATF16949 standards
* Good commercial awareness and operations understanding (quality, supply chain, etc.)
* Experience in designing and developing electric drive units (electric motors / inverters) is highly preferred
The company specializes in designing and manufacturing innovative electric vehicle powertrain systems for automotive applications. Candidates with direct experience in electric drivetrain / EDUs (electric motors / inverters) are required.
This Chief Engineer role is commutable from Basingstoke, Alton, Farnham, Farnborough, Woking, Guildford, Petersfield, Camberley, and Winchester. NOTE: Work visas can be supported for suitable candidates, and relocation assistance may be available depending on individual circumstances.
