Description
The job itself
Do you have an enthusiasm for protecting the environment and tackling fly tipping? Do you have a keen eye for detail and enjoy working both independently and as part of a team? If so, we have a new opportunity for you to join our Streetscene Enforcement team as a Technical Officer.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is committed to tackling fly tipping, particularly through the use of modern camera technology, and recently set aside significant funding toward that goal. This is a completely new role that will support our fight against fly tipping by making the best use of a range of camera equipment.
The Role
As a Technical Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting our enforcement activity by deploying and managing remote camera equipment across the East Riding. You will be responsible for:
1. Planning and carrying out regular inspections of fly tipping hotspots.
2. Deploying and maintaining CCTV and other camera equipment.
3. Reviewing footage and identifying potential evidence.
4. Keeping accurate records of deployments and findings.
5. Supporting enforcement officers with evidence gathering and case progression.
6. Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation including the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000.
This is a varied and hands-on role that requires a proactive and methodical approach. You will need to be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and have the physical ability to carry, lift, and install portable camera equipment.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
7. Has an understanding of how CCTV and camera equipment operates.
8. Is aware of environmental crime issues, particularly fly tipping.
9. Has knowledge of relevant legislation and is able to maintain detailed and accurate records.
10. Can work independently, manage their own workload, and maintain focus over extended periods.
11. Holds a full driving licence and has access to a vehicle.
It would be advantageous if you have practical experience using surveillance equipment and a working knowledge of environmental enforcement procedures.
You will be based in Beverley but will be visiting sites across the East Riding and work from home when appropriate.
This is a temporary post with funding for 12 months.
