Avocados Impact, founded in 2020 by Rachael and Katie, is an independent rights advice service and community dedicated to supporting care experienced individuals in Devon. As a lived experience run organisation, we combine the knowledge, passion, andexpertiseof both care experienced and professional leaders. Katie, care experienced herself and Rachael, an Independent Social Worker, have built a space where individuals can access tailored guidance and support outside of statutory services. Our organisation is guided by a Board of Directors with both professional and lived experience of the care system, alongside a Lived Experience Board of care experienced individuals who actively shape and influence our work.

Job Description

Job Title:Community Rights Worker

Location:Hybrid – Exeter office and community-based work across the county of Devon

Hours:Full-time, permanent

Salary: £31,500.00 Per Annum (yearly salary review)

Purpose of the Role

The Community Rights Worker will support care-experienced people of all ages to understand, access, and exercise their rights and entitlements. The role involves providing advice, advocacy, and practical support while working alongside communities to increase awareness, participation, and empowerment.

The post holder will contribute to strengthening community networks and ensuring people have access to the information, resources, and services they are entitled to.

Key Responsibilities

Rights Advice and Advocacy

* Provide rights-based advice and guidance to care-experienced individuals.
* Support individuals to access entitlements, services, and opportunities available to them.
* Provide advocacy support in meetings, reviews, and professional settings.
* Support individuals navigating systems such as social care, education, housing, and other services.
* Assistwith preparation for and support during court proceedings whereappropriate.
* Help individuals understand policies, rights, and complaint procedures.

One-to-One and Group Support

* Deliver individual support tailored to people’s needs.
* Facilitate group sessions, workshops, and peer-support opportunities.
* Support individuals to build confidence, knowledge, and self-advocacy skills.

Community Engagement and Development

* Build relationships with communities across the county.
* Support outreach activities and engagement with care-experienced communities.
* Develop community-based initiatives that strengthen knowledge of rights and support networks.
* Represent Avocados Impact in community meetings, events, and partnerships.

Partnership and Collaboration

* Work collaboratively with colleagues, partner organisations, and local services.
* Contribute to a supportive team environment while also managing an independent caseload.
* Signpost and refer individuals toappropriate serviceswhen needed.

Monitoring and Reporting

* Maintainaccuratecase records and documentation.
* Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of project outcomes.

Person Specification

Essential Skills and Experience

* Experience working in social care, youth work, community work, or related fields.
* Understanding of issues affecting care-experienced people.
* Strong communicationand interpersonal skills.
* Ability to build trust and positive relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and different ages.
* Experience supporting individuals in advocacy or advice-based roles.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Strong organisational and time-management skills.
* Confidencefacilitatingboth one-to-one and group work.
* Commitment to equality, inclusion, and rights-based approaches.
* Knowledge or experience of legal processes, advocacy, or rights advice.
* Experience working with community development approaches.
* Understanding of the care system and related legislation.
* Experience working with people with lived experience of care.

(Full training will be provided where necessary.)

Additional Requirements

* Full, valid UK driving licence and ability to travel across the county.
* Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
* Ability to work flexibly whenrequired.
