Pay: £130 – £170 for day-to-day. Paid to Scale (up to M6) for most long-term roles and all long-term roles after 12 weeks
Protocol Education have long relationships with secondary schools across North Somerset, who rely on us to recruit motivated, enthusiastic History specialists who want to build their classroom experience, strengthen behaviour management, and connect/network with great local schools. Our schools mainly come to us with long-term roles ( paternity and maternity) which can lead to permeant positions, but day-to-day emergency cover allows you to create relationships and find the right school for you.
Whether you’re an ECT building your CV or an experienced teacher seeking flexible work across varied settings, this role allows you to teach in schools that fit your availability and location. Our educators work anywhere between 2–5 days per week and often secure long-term roles within a few weeks. Work with Protocol education can remain flexible and day-to-day, or help you explore options before going into your dream long-term role.
What the Role Involves
You’ll deliver pre-planned History lessons that keep students engaged and focused. The role includes:
Teaching pre-set History lessons across KS3–KS4
Building students’ confidence in historical enquiry, analysis and interpretation
Managing behaviour with positivity and consistency
Supporting learners during tasks and explaining key concepts
Collecting completed work and providing feedback to staff
Adapting confidently to different groups and routines
This role is ideal for History specialists who want to grow their subject delivery and classroom leadership.

History ECTs or fully qualified History teachers
Strong knowledge of British and global historical topics
A calm, professional classroom presence
