Deputy Payroll Manager
Salary: £37,000 - £40,000 (DOE)
Location: Middlesbrough | Hybrid after probation period
Hours: 36.25 hours, Monday-Friday
We're recruiting two Deputy Payroll Managers to join a well-established payroll function supporting a complex client portfolio. This is a hands‑on role combining payroll delivery with people management and service necessariamente oversight.
The role
Support the Payroll Manager with day‑to‑day payroll operations and team leadership
Oversee service delivery, accuracy and SLA performance
Manage, coach and develop payroll team members
Act as a deputy point of contact for escalations and workflow management
Contribute to process improvements and ongoing projects
About you
Proven payroll experience (pensions experience beneficial but not essential)
Previous deputy, supervisory or team‑lead experience
Strong attention to detail and confidence managing workloads and deadlines
Comfortable working with systems and Excel
Able to attend the office full‑time for the first 6 months for training (hybrid thereafter, potentially sooner depending on progress)
