Description We are currently looking for a Project Manager to join our Clinical Investigations and Trials Team within the Innovation and Compliance group. This is a full-time opportunity, on a fixed term contract/internal move or temporary promotion basis until 31 March 2027. The role will be based in 10 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf London, E14 4PU. Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas. Government departments and agencies are working towards implementing a minimum 60% attendance in office sites. We are currently implementing a flexible, hybrid way of working, with a minimum of 8 days per month working on site to enable the collaboration and contact with partners and stakeholders needed to deliver MHRA business. Attendance on site is driven by business needs so depending on the nature of the role, this can flex up to 12 days a month, with the remainder of time worked either remotely or in the office. Some roles will need to be on site more regularly. Who are we? This key role will be critical in maintaining and enhancing the reputation of the UK as a great place to conduct clinical research for medicines and devices. The role holder will be responsible for leading and managing staff and work in collaboration with the HRA to develop an IT platform for a modernised end-to-end service of clinical trial applications. This is an opportunity to modernise processes, improve data use, increase automation, improve reporting and support risk-proportionate decision-making in clinical trial assessments within MHRA and supporting the NHS 10-year plan and the Life Sciences Sector Plan (LSSP). Key responsibilities: Lead the collaborative development and implementation of a modernised, end-to-end clinical trial application service in partnership with the Health Research Authority (HRA) and other MHRA teams, ensuring alignment with the replacement of the Integrated Research Application System (IRAS) under the Research Systems Programme (RSP). Drive the modernisation of clinical trial processes, focusing on enhancing data utilisation, increasing automation, and improving reporting capabilities to support risk-proportionate decision-making in line with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and NHS 10-year Health Plan objectives. Manage the transition from the current IRAS and Appian systems, addressing integration challenges and minimising disruption to ongoing services through effective project planning and stakeholder engagement. Line manage staff who support this work. This includes coaching, identifying learning and development opportunities within the team and setting performance management standards and ensuring effective management in accordance with HR policies.
