You will work alongside experienced Occupational Health Advisors and Physicians, supporting the delivery of high-quality services to council employees and external clients. Responsible toOccupational Health Manager
Responsible for staff/equipment Equipment within the Occupational Health Unit
Main purpose of job To work within the Occupational Health Team to enhance the health and well-being of the employees of Sunderland City Council. To work under guidance to promote and protect the health of the varied workforce.
Key responsibilities
Ability to be able to conduct, interpret and evaluate health assessment and screening, surveillance and interventions for employees with appropriate support.
Under direction, providing pre-employment health screening and assessment of fitness to work with adjustments to the workplace in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.
Health surveillance (audiometry, spirometry, skin and Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome assessments).
Administration of occupational vaccinations/immunisations (Flu, Hepatitis A and B) in accordance with the written instructions
Monitoring of employees health and health promotion.
Assist with Case management services both face to face and telephone. You will be expected to record information and communicate specified information to various members of HR and management.
Key tasks
Under direction, undertaking the delivery of the occupational health services/activities, including:
Pre-employment health screening
Health surveillance (audiometry, spirometry, skin and Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome assessments)
Driver Health Assessments
Occupational vaccinations/immunisations, including phlebotomy
Monitoring of employees health
Health promotion
Infection control
Case management
To promote and champion a positive organisation-wide culture that reflects the Councils values
To work and communicate effectively in the team as well as having the ability to work autonomously.
To work with the team to manage the clinical diary so that services are delivered to meet the needs of the business, working across a range of clinical areas
Collaborate with other professionals, sector experts, employers and employees to lead workplace health initiatives that are responsive to the needs of individuals and organisations.
To assist in clinical audit and use and analyse data effectively. This includes participating in evidence-based practice
Participate in relevant project work for service and quality improvement

The postholder is subject to a DBS check on a cyclical basis.

Person Specification
Experience
* Experience in the delivery of Occupational Health activities or equivalent
* Evidence of ongoing professional development
* Practical experience of emergency procedures such as resuscitation and other first aid procedures
* Experience of effectively dealing with management referrals
* Experience of delivering health surveillance
* Experience of pre-employment health assessments
* Experience of writing and reviewing protocols and procedures

Qualifications
* Must be NMC Registered
* Ability to gain occupational health diploma / SCPHN, part 3 of NMC Register
Skills, Knowledge, Ability (including ability to develop knowledge, skill or experience)
* Knowledge of Occupational Health and Wellness Strategies as directed by the HSE (Health and Safety Executive)
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality
* Evidence of teamwork skills
* Knowledge of Public Health issues
* Computer based skills to be able to work with Microsoft Office packages such as Outlook, Excel and Word
* Operating without direct supervision following protocols and confident working autonomously and managing their own workload
* Willing to participate in training programmes
