Lead Structural Delivery Across the UK Power and Energy Sector
We're looking for a Principal Structural Engineer to take a key leadership role across high‐profile Power and Energy projects, supporting the delivery of critical UK electricity infrastructure including Transmission and Distribution, substations, HV and HVDC systems, and National Grid projects.
If you bring deep structural expertise within the Power sector and enjoy technical leadership, guiding teams, and delivering complex infrastructure with real national impact, this role offers influence, autonomy and challenge in equal measure.
Reporting to an Associate Director / Associate Engineer, you'll play a central role in shaping and assuring structural output across some of the UK's most important energy and electricity infrastructure programmes.
What You'll Be Doing
* Leading structural design delivery across Power and Energy projects, including large standalone schemes or multiple coordinated workstreams
* Managing and developing structural project teams, ensuring appropriate skills, resourcing and technical governance are in place
* Overseeing the production and approval of high‐quality structural deliverables, including calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and digital models
* Acting as a technical authority for structural design within the Power sector, providing oversight, challenge and direction
* Supporting projects across Transmission and Distribution (T&D), electricity infrastructure, substations, HV and HVDC assets
* Developing delivery programmes, managing budgets and maintaining effective commercial and change control
* Supporting tenders, fee proposals and technical scopes for Power and Energy projects, including National Grid works
* Reporting technical and project performance to senior leadership
* Driving innovation, sustainability and constructability within structural solutions for the UK energy network
* Promoting Safe Together behaviours and contributing to Perfect Delivery standards
* Mentoring engineers and supporting the development of Power sector structural capability
What You'll Bring
* Chartered Engineer (CEng MIStructE or CEng MICE)
* Proven experience delivering and leading structural design within the Power or Energy sector
* Strong background working on electricity infrastructure projects, such as:
* Transmission and Distribution (T&D) networks
* Substations and associated civil and structural works
* HV and HVDC infrastructure
* National Grid or equivalent regulated utility projects
* Excellent understanding of UK structural design codes, standards and assurance processes, particularly within regulated environments
* High proficiency in structural analysis and design software, with the ability to review and validate complex models
* Strong commercial awareness, including budget management and change control
* Experience operating within integrated, multidisciplinary teams, working closely with electrical and civil disciplines
* Sound understanding of CDM responsibilities, structural safety and construction risk management
* CSCS card, eligibility for SC clearance, and a full UK driving licence
