Consultant Haematologist with specialist interests in Malignant Haematology and Cellular Therapies

Applications are invited for this full-time Consultant Haematology post based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. This is an exciting opportunity to join the current team of 12 consultants. The successful candidate will have a major interest in haematological malignancies, especially cellular therapies, and will actively participate in clinical research. The candidate will be expected to develop the service in line with the department's current interests.
The Haematology department includes five specialist registrar posts and two specialty doctor posts.
The post holders will participate in the on-call rota for adult Haematology, cover inpatient Haematology in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, provide advice to primary and secondary care colleagues, and cover the Haematology laboratory (currently 1 in 7 with prospective cover).
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary serves approximately 632,000 people and is located at the Foresterhill site, alongside the University of Aberdeen Medical School, the Aberdeen and North East Scotland Transfusion Centre, Roxburghe House, the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, and the Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. The dedicated Haematology inpatient unit opened in 2013 and has 23 beds. The outpatient department and day therapy unit were refurbished in 2010. A new combined Haematology and Oncology outpatient and day therapy facility, the ANCHOR centre, is scheduled to open in 2026, adjacent to the radiotherapy unit on the Foresterhill site.
Applicants must have full GMC registration with a licence to practise (must be in place prior to starting). For more information, visit the GMC website.
UK-trained applicants should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from the date of interview. Alternatively, applicants may possess a CESR / CESR (CP).
Applicants with appropriate specialist training and experience, not yet on the GMC Specialist Register, may be considered for a Locum Consultant position (up to 12 months). During locum employment, an application for CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.
