Description Wood is currently recruiting for a Fabrication Shop Superintendent (contract). The role will be working at various locations in the UK and Europe to support the Redcar site on an energy transition project. The Role The Fabrication Shop Superintendents role is to oversee offsite pipework and pipe support fabrication undertaken at an off-site fabrication facility. The fabrication scope is in relation to the energy transition project located at Wilton in Teesside working as part of a Integrated Project Management Team (IPMT). Reporting directly to the PCC (Power Island) Construction Manager the successful candidate will have demonstrable pipework fabrication experience with a strong background in UK onshore construction relating to a top tier COMAH site. Knowledge of PED 2014, CDM Regulations 2015, and Construction risk management is also required. The role will require being assigned to the fabrication facility and undertake occasional business trips to supporting subcontractors, as well as to the construction site in Wilton. Responsibilities Workscope; General: Promote HSSE awareness and ensure that all Client HSSE and Readiness requirements are implemented and adhered to Participate in daily / weekly HSSE reviews and inspections as implemented by the project and maintain supervisory attendance at all contractor toolbox talks and safety meetings Participate in site safety audits regarding work execution, permits, work site standards and workforce knowledge of the work Observe Industrial Relations to ensure collaborative and harmonious engagements Ensure fabrication is executed in accordance with applicable specifications, drawings, codes and standards and to the requirements of the Contract Ensure all hazardous activities and those with potential risk to material or personnel, have an agreed method statement, and risk assessment prior to commencement of work Participate in regular EPCm Contractor progress meetings, interface coordination meetings and attend other project meetings as required Review submittals (technical documentation packages) to obtain agreement of fabrication proposals Review the EPCm Contractors project plan to ensure the completeness of scope and correctness of construction input Review the project requirements, and the constructability checklist to identify critical execution issues, and input into the overall schedule and the construction execution plan Develop close working relationships between construction team members and the HSSE and Quality teams to provide a consistent delivery approach and to obtain effective resolution of issues. Encourage the same degree of cooperation across the EPCm Contractor and subcontractor organisations Review fabrication feasibility, method studies and hazard analysis whilst establishing, in conjunction with the EPCm Contractor planning group, realistic schedules for fabrication activities Technical: Prior to start of fabrication ensure all weld specification and welder records are in place. Ensure fabrication workshops are clean and free of non-project materials, and procedures are in place to certify lifting equipment and calibrate inspection equipment Prior to start of inspection activities and in conjunction with the Project Welding Engineer and Technology Department, ensure adequate inspection and NDE to guarantee correct materials usage, weld mapping and weld quality Ensure all quality control checks and tests are instigated, with records maintained and available as required for weld maps, NDE, material certification, dimensional checks and branch reinforcement checks, PMI, PWHT etc., all in accordance with contractors agreed Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), method statements and project specifications, recorded on Inspection and Test Records (ITRs) and supporting documentation (e.g. NDE reports, heat treatment charts, pressure test charts etc.). Where applicable monitor the testing laboratory Ensure painting finish / applications and full materials traceability are carried out in accordance with the project quality plan and specifications Ensure satisfactory pressure testing and witness in accordance with the project quality plan and specifications Ensure procedures for release to perform non-destructive examination and to undertake any repair. Ensure welder performance is monitored with improvement implemented where acceptance rates fall below acceptable levels Ensure procedures for release to paint / coat and for final release of fabricated material Prior to despatch, ensure satisfactory spool identification, internal cleaning, protection blanks, end caps and surface protection Qualifications What makes you remarkable? Expected: HNC / NVQ L4 or equivalent Extensive experience of working within a client or Principal Contractor team on UK brownfield Top Tier COMAH sites Hands on experience of construction (incl. fabrication) planning, preparations and execution Practical expertise of constructability and hazard identification and management Desirable: Piping apprenticeship preferred but not essential
