About the Role
We are working on behalf of a successful and forward-thinking secondary school in Rainham (RM13) to recruit an experienced and inspirational Head of Science. This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious science specialist to lead a high-performing department across KS3, KS4, and Sixth Form.
The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership skills, a passion for science education, and a proven ability to raise standards and deliver outstanding outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
As Head of Science, you will:
* Lead, manage and develop the Science department across KS3–KS5
* Drive high-quality teaching and learning across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
* Oversee curriculum design, assessment, and departmental improvement planning
* Support and mentor science teachers and technicians
* Monitor student progress and implement strategies to maximise achievement
* Ensure high standards of behaviour, safety, and engagement within the department
* Contribute to whole-school leadership initiatives
Teaching Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach across a range of year groups, which may include:
* Years 7–11 (KS3 & KS4)
* Years 12–13 (Sixth Form)

* A qualified teacher (QTS or equivalent) with strong subject knowledge
* Proven experience within science leadership or a readiness to step into a HoD role
* Ability to inspire staff and students alike
* Strong organisational and communication skills
* Commitment to raising standards and promoting excellence
