Overview
We are recruiting a new Band 4 Speech and Language Therapy Assistant Practitioner to join our Adult SLT service at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This newly developed role supports patients with complex dysphagia and communication needs across acute inpatient care and Head & Neck cancer pathways. The post holder will work closely with Speech and Language Therapists, manage a delegated caseload, deliver therapy programmes, and contribute to service development and education.
Main Duties
* Assist qualified speech and language therapists in providing high‑quality nutritional care, dysphagia and communication support.
* Undertake clinical and administrative activities as required.
* Work unsupervised on patient‑related work under direction from the SLT.
* Manage own caseload of patients, working without direct supervision and performing delegated clinical tasks.
* Assist in developing and delivering teaching and education to the wider multidisciplinary team.
Job Responsibilities
* Deliver high‑quality care for patients with complex dysphagia and communication needs.
* Maintain accurate clinical records and coordinate appointments.
* Support data collection, audit activity, and preparation of therapy resources.
* Ensure smooth communication across multidisciplinary teams.
* Contribute to quality improvement and service development initiatives.
What you will bring
* Experience at Band 3 level (or equivalent) within a healthcare setting.
* Experience or strong interest in supporting patients with dysphagia and/or communication needs.
* Confidence working independently within delegated responsibilities.
* Ability to work across pathways and manage competing clinical priorities.
* Experience supporting or delivering training and education.
* Commitment to ongoing development within a specialist clinical area.
Essential Qualifications
Band 3 or equivalent experience within a healthcare setting. Experience in dysphagia or communication support in acute or complex care environments.
