About the role

Balfour Beatty is a leading infrastructure company working to deliver key low carbon projects such as public transport networks, renewable energy grid connections and nuclear power stations. Low carbon infrastructure is a key growth area for our business. The UK has a strong pipeline of low carbon infrastructure requirements to meet the Government's Net Zero Strategy, which has mobilised significant capital investment for low carbon wind power, energy efficient buildings, carbon capture and new nuclear capability.

Balfour Beatty is recruiting a Responsible Sourcing Advisor, who will be responsible for delivering projects that embed responsible sourcing across Balfour Beatty supply chain, aligning outcomes with our Building New Futures Sustainability Strategy targets.

Sitting within the Group Responsible Sourcing Team, part of the Group Sustainability function, you will work closely with Procurement and Sustainability teams, and support the integration of responsible sourcing into tenders, contracts and project delivery. This includes environmental, social and ethical sustainability.

What you'll be doing

* Develop and deliver responsible sourcing projects that support achievement of the Building New Futures sustainability targets, translating strategy into practical actions across the supply chain.
* Work with Procurement teams to embed responsible sourcing requirements into supply chain agreements, considering social value, ethics, nature, climate change and resource efficiency.
* Deliver upskilling and awareness sessions for internal stakeholders and supply chain partners on responsible sourcing topics to enable consistent application of responsible sourcing tools, policies and reporting across Business Units and projects.
* Identify and share best practice across the business, including the development of case studies, guidance material and internal communications.
* Develop and implement initiatives to support Small and Medium Enterprises and Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises engagement, capability and compliance, recognising the challenges and opportunities for smaller suppliers within major infrastructure programmes.

Who we’re looking for

Essential

* Good knowledge of sustainability issues, including social impact, climate change, nature, ethical supply chains and resource efficiency.
* Stakeholder management and communication skills
* Have a business mindset and commercial awareness
* Proficiency in IT and ability to adapt to using new IT based platforms
* Some UK travel required.

Preferable

* Relevant qualifications in sustainability
* Knowledge and interest in carbon, such as Scope 3 reporting, PAS 2080, Environmental Product Declarations and whole life carbon.
* IEMA or CIPS Membership (or equivalent)

You do not need to come from a construction, infrastructure or engineering background. We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds with an interest and willingness to learn about infrastructure.

Why work for us

Day in, day out, our teams deliver some of the UK’s most ambitious, exciting and meaningful projects; developing, building and maintaining the vital infrastructure that supports national economies and strengthens communities.

Why join us?

As if contributing to and supporting work that makes life better for millions wasn’t rewarding enough, we offer a full range of benefits too. You’ll have the freedom to shape the package that’s right for you and your life. Here are some of our key benefits:

* Smart working, giving you more flexibility such as staggered start and finish times, with up to 40% remote working, where roles allow.
