About Our Employees:

The twin objectives of St George's Crypt are the relief of hardship and poverty among those living with homelessness, poverty and addiction in the city of Leeds and beyond; and the advancement of the Christian religion for public benefit. Therefore, it is key for the employees and volunteers of the Crypt to be sympathetic to the Christian faith which underpins all our work.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

Ø Enforcing the company's safeguarding policy.

Ø Being alert to and recognising welfare issues, being sure to challenge poor practice.

Ø Sharing appropriate information with relevant people.

Ø Continually working with the families of residents and service users, sharing information and contributing to plans if a concern is investigated.

Ø Ensuring that all staff having contact with children, vulnerable adults and/or their families have received appropriate training on safeguarding issues.

Ø To Understand and implement working practices set by the Safeguarding Adults and Children Board.

Ø To understand and implement working standards set by the domestic violence and abuse quality mark documentation.

Charity Wide Responsibilities:

Ø Model the Christian values of forgiveness and compassion in communicating with all staff, volunteers, and clients.

Ø Value and respect the prayer life that underpins the work of the Charity.

Ø Recognise the holistic needs of all service users both practical and spiritual and either respond directly or refer as appropriate.

Ø Be willing to advocate the Charity to other churches and organisations.

Ø Attend training courses and conferences in order to maintain personal development as agreed with Line Manager.

Ø Due to the nature of the role and the workplace, the post holder must be over 18 years of age.

Job Purpose:

To be a proactive and confident Crypt Warden at the main Care Centre site, working closely with the Team Leader and Health and Wellbeing Coordinator

To work at the entrance of the homeless hostel, which may expose the individual to challenging and unpredictable situations.

To oversee access to the Care Centre, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all

To implement procedures for managing and, when necessary, refusing entry to individuals under the influence of alcohol or drugs or displaying aggressive behaviour

To skilfully manage situations involving aggression or challenging behaviour, using de-escalation techniques to maintain a calm and secure atmosphere

To ensure all public areas of the building are cleared at the end of each lunchtime service period

Key Job Role Responsibilities and Main Tasks:

Access Control –

· Monitor and control entry to the care centre, ensuring that individuals are safe to enter the premises.

Behaviour Management –

· Identify and refuse entry to individuals who appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs and could cause conflict.

Conflict Resolution –

· Handle aggressive behaviour with professionalism and employ de-escalation techniques to manage and resolve conflicts.

Communication –

· Effectively communicate with the duty staff team and other relevant organisations as needed.

Resident Interaction –

· Engage with residents in a respectful and supportive manner, fostering a positive atmosphere within the building.

Incident Reporting –

· Document and report any incidents or safety concerns to the team leader.

Breakaway Techniques –

· Utilise breakaway techniques as trained to protect oneself and others in potentially dangerous situations.

Liaison with Organisations –

· Work collaboratively with external organisations and agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.

Training and Compliance –

· Stay updated on training related to de-escalation, breakaway techniques, and other relevant areas to ensure compliance with charities policies and procedures.

The tasks and responsibilities listed above are not exhaustive and may be amended according to the needs of the Charity. Employees are expected to work flexibly in responding to external and internal initiatives to support the needs of the Charity.

Person Specification:

Essential Charity Wide:

· DBS Cleared

· Safeguarding training

· Flexible attitude towards working arrangements

· Professional attitude and approach

Essential Job Role Specific:

· Strong de-escalation and conflict resolution skills.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

· Confidence and the ability to handle stressful and potentially aggressive situations.

· Ability to keep accurate documents.

· Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with external organisations.

· Ability to stand for extended periods and handle physically demanding situations.

· Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations.

· Understanding and compassionate towards the challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness and addiction.

Desirable:

· Previous experience working with individuals in addiction and/or homelessness

· Safeguarding trained
