About The Team

We are looking for enthusiastic, committed social workers who have the passion and drive to make a positive difference in children’s lives. Our Child and Family Teams specialise in care planning for children requiring care and support, including cases subject to child protection planning, PLO, Court, and adoption work. The service focuses on risk management to minimise escalation and reduce the need for PLO, family separations, and care proceedings.

Benefits

* The right to request flexible working and supportive policies for parents including enhanced maternity, adoption and paternity pay. We also work in an agile way, allowing you to work from home or the office, and we are piloting an enhanced flexible working policy that allows up to 2 non‑working days per month.
* Access to Reflective spaces – collaborative discussions facilitated by a psychologist to support sharing of thoughts, feelings and reactions to work experiences.
* Access to Occupational Health Unit and ‘Vivup’, a fully confidential Employee Assistance Programme.
* 26 days annual leave, rising to 31 days after 5 years’ service, with an option to purchase up to 10 additional days pro‑rated per year.
* A generous Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
* Additional Council‑wide benefits including Cycle to Work scheme, discounted LeisureForLife membership and a staff discount Vectis card.

Eligibility and Application

We welcome final year social work students who will qualify later this year. Selected students may be employed as temporary Assessor Care Managers until registration is completed, with flexible hours to suit individual needs. Those applying for experienced positions must prove registration with Social Care Wales and 3 years of post‑qualifying experience.

Protecting children and vulnerable adults is a core responsibility of all appointed staff. The successful applicant will also undergo an enhanced disclosure and barring service check.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

The Council values diversity in its workforce and is committed to ensuring no unlawful discrimination occurs in the recruitment and selection process on the grounds of age, sex, race, disability, sexual orientation, transgender, non‑binary identities, religion or belief, or pregnancy and maternity. We offer staff networks including Allies Network, Disability and Carers Network, and Perthyn, our LGBTQ+ Network.

Applications submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than those in English. The Council is committed to a guaranteed interview scheme for Welsh‑speakers of Level 3 and above. It also guarantees an interview for care‑experienced leavers who meet the essential criteria for the role.
