Care and Support Worker, L'Arche Kent
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reports to: Locality Leader and Deputy Locality Leader
Hours of work: Full time, 40 hours per week (Hours will be worked flexibly across the week, including evenings and weekends. You may be required to provide some sleep-in and waking night duties)
Salary: £12.21 per hour. Wages paid monthly on or around 23rd of each month.
Place of work: Wincheap Locality residential care home and Supported living house
Contract type: Permanent

Main purpose of the role:
As a Care and Support Worker you will:
* Support 11 people with learning disabilities in a variety of settings in line with agreed support plans in all aspects of their daily lives.
* Promote and enable choice, independence, self determination to people with a learning disability through practical, physical and emotional support
* Contribute to creating a sense of community as a place of mutuality and belonging.
Person Centred Support
• Provide high quality support to people with learning disabilities in line with L'Arche values, policies and procedures
Support of people with learning disabilities
• Assist with the personal hygiene, dress and health needs of individuals in their home
• Facilitate individuals to meet their leisure, social, practical and spiritual needs
• Encourage individuals to in their ongoing development of independence
Building an atmosphere of mutual relationships
• Foster positive relationships with both assistants and people with a learning disability
• Assist in celebrations and support spiritual life so that there is an atmosphere of welcome and friendship

L'Arche Kent is the oldest of the 11 UK L'Arche communities, calling Canterbury a home since 1974.Our Community includes currently 28 people with learning disabilities, who we support at home, as well as volunteers, friends, neighbours and L'Arche assistants. Some of the people we support choose to live in their own flat, others prefer to share their home with one or more housemates who have a learning disability and perhaps with L'Arche assistants as well.
