Offer description

Liverpool John Moores University is seeking to appoint a full-time Lecturer in Performance and Production to support the launch and development of our exciting new degree programme: BA (Hons) Performance and Production, commencing in September 2025.

Based in the Liverpool School of Art and Creative Industries, part of LJMU’s new Faculty of Society and Culture, the role offers the opportunity to work within a vibrant and diverse academic community. The School offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across the Departments of Film Studies, Journalism, Media Production, as well as Art and Design and fosters strong interdisciplinary connections across subject areas. The School is also home to the Institute of Art & Technology, a renowned centre for interdisciplinary research and development, housing specialist labs and facilities dedicated to experimental technologies, contemporary art, exhibitions, and urban and cultural practice. It benefits further from key resources including the Exhibition Research Lab, Fab Lab, and a range of collaborative partnerships which bridge the creative arts, technology, and cultural innovation.

Validated with seven commendations, this innovative programme reimagines our traditional Drama provision for a new generation of practitioners, researchers, and creative professionals. Structured around three interrelated strands - Performance, Socially Engaged Practice, and Production - the programme places collaboration, experimentation, civic engagement and critical inquiry at its core.

We invite applications from candidates with a strong grounding in contemporary performance praxis and performance studies, with particular expertise in the application of immersive technologies in performance. The successful candidate will contribute to the design and delivery of modules that explore the intersections of performance and technology—enabling students to engage both critically and creatively with emerging and hybrid forms.

Areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to:

* Immersive and interactive performance environments
* Digital scenographies and spatial design
* Sound, aurality, and spatial audio practices
* Online, virtual, and hybrid performance practices
* Interdisciplinary and collaborative methodologies

The postholder will support student-led performance work, contribute to curriculum development, and respond to current developments in the wider cultural and creative industries. They will also be expected to contribute to the School’s research and knowledge exchange agenda, participate in interdisciplinary teaching, and help build partnerships with external organisations across the creative and cultural sectors.

The post is based in Liverpool, a culturally rich and dynamic city known for its thriving arts scene. LJMU is proud of its strong partnerships with leading local and national organisations including Liverpool Film Office, Lime Pictures, ITV, the BBC, The Everyman and Playhouse Theatres, The Unity Theatre, The Royal Court Theatre, The Liverpool Philharmonic, and Tate Liverpool, among others.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking academic team and play a central role in the establishment of a distinctive, future-facing programme that reflects the evolving landscape of performance and production in the 21st century.

In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction and development support as well as family-friendly policies.

This is an exciting time to join the university as we deliver the LJMU Strategy 2030 and its vision of LJMU as an inclusive civic university transforming lives and futures, by placing students at the heart of everything we do.

If you feel that this is the role you have been looking for and your skills and experience can make a real difference at LJMU, we look forward to hearing from you.

LJMU is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and communities irrespective of age, transgender status, disability, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity and religion or belief. All our appointments are made on merit.
