Weare seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Patient Support Officer tojoin our friendly team in this Administrative and Clerical role. The Principalhospitals within County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust areDarlington Memorial Hospital, University Hospital of North Durham, BishopAuckland Hospital and Shotley Bridge Hospital. The Cardiology and RespiratoryInvestigation Units comprise a Team of approximately 40 staff who provide abroad range of invasive and non invasive procedures. The successful canditatewill co ordinate and maintain high quality appointment systems for Cardiologyand Respiratory diagnostic services in Darlington Memorial and Bishop AucklandHospitals in this patient facing role. The nominal base for this post isDarlington Memorial Hospital, however the successful candidate can expect towork across other sites at times for their development and the service needs.We are committed to providing learning and development opportunities to all ourstaff.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work as part of a team in abusy Cardio-Respiratory Department. They will be responsible for co ordinatingand maintaining high quality appointment systems for Cardiology and RespiratoryDiagnostic Services, ensuring best utilisation of resources available.Experience of hospital based patient management systems will be desirable. PatientSupport Officers are expected to supervise a small administrative team, toensure clinical services operate in a smooth and efficient manner.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Good standard of education - minimum of 3 GCSE's at Grade 4 or above (or equivalent) including English Language
* NVQ level 3 in Business Administration or equivalent knowledge and experience.

* Ability to prioritise workload in order to meet deadlines
* Good communication skills written and verbal, with the ability to obtain information and pass on comprehensive and confidential messages
* Ability to communicate accurately in a courteous and effective manner with a wide range of staff, professionals and members of the public
* Able to provide day to day supervision of section
* Knowledge of computer packages e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook
* Ability to analyse data and present data using Excel packages
* Knowledge of Data Protection and Caldicott principles and an understanding of the need to maintain patient confidentiality
* Ability to accurately transfer data from one source to another
* Ability to use discretion and use own initiative to resolve routine queries in line with departmental procedures
* Flexible approach to work and adaptable to change.
