Overview
Environment Agency is seeking an ECU Manager to lead our Economic Crime Unit, part of the National Environmental Crime Unit. The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals and ensure compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership for financial investigations and POCA compliance.
* Manage two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer, with a focus on development, performance, and delivery.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC) and influence senior-level decisions to support EA priorities.
* Support the wider organisation in improving processes and increasing understanding of POCA; share lessons learned and advise enforcement officers nationwide.
Team and Environment
The Economic Crime Unit comprises two teams—Asset Denial and Money Laundering Investigations—consisting of Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers, and Crime Analysts. The unit is nationally dispersed and handles serious, complex criminality involving organised networks.
Experience / Skills Required
* Exceptional leadership skills, with experience leading a dispersed team.
* Strong understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act.
* Experience in law enforcement and knowledge of the National Intelligence Model.
* Effective communication, including delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders.
* Ability to work under pressure, prioritise a varied workload, and identify areas for improvement; experience in leading changes to working practices.
* Ability to develop and enhance the capability of a team and individuals within it.
Desirable Details
* Hybrid working with home and nearest office; travel across the country for meetings and operations; incident response is a central duty and may attract additional payment.
