You will be required to work 16.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year.
The Deaf Education Service, within Supporting Learners are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Deaf Role Model to their team. This post is offered on a permanent basis and is peripatetic in nature. Although based in Dumfries, the postholder will work in schools across Dumfries and Galloway. Applications are welcomed from those looking for both full and part time hours.
This is a unique opportunity to raise awareness of deaf culture and promote positive attitudes towards deafness and inclusive communication and make a difference in the lives of deaf children and young people.
Applicants must have extended experience of working with pupils preferably with additional support needs and be committed to removing barriers to learning for deaf pupils. Applicants must be educated to SCQF level 4 (or equivalent) in Maths and English. You must be a confident and fluent BSL user and understand the challenges faced by deaf children and young people. It would be desirable to have lived experience.
A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act. From 28 February, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
