We currently have an opportunity to join our Private Sector Housing team as a Tenancy Relations Officer. The role: You will take a lead role in promoting lawful tenancy practices, supporting tenants at risk of illegal eviction, and helping the council to implement their responsibilities under the Renters Rights Act (the Act). The Act introduces significant changes to tenancy law, new duties for councils, and strengthened tenant protections. You will play an important part in helping residents understand their rights, supporting investigations into potential breaches, and gathering evidence where concerns arise. Full training will be provided, including opportunities for apprenticeship pathways where appropriate. This is a meaningful role where your work will directly safeguard vulnerable residents, prevent homelessness, and drive improvements in housing standards across our district. As a Tenancy Relations Officer, you will: Provide confidential, customer‑focused advice to tenants and landlords. Prevent homelessness through early intervention, legal guidance, and appropriate referrals. Support with PACE interviews and prepare evidence for legal proceedings. Build strong working relationships with landlords, partner agencies, and voluntary sector organisations. Promote best practice within the private rented sector and contribute to community education. Support the council’s enforcement responsibilities under relevant housing legislation. What you will need: Essential: • Strong knowledge of housing legislation relating to private rented sector tenancies, homelessness, and housing conditions. • Experience managing a varied personal caseload and meeting performance expectations. • Skills in negotiation, mediation, and preparing evidence for legal processes. • Excellent communication skills. • Experience working with vulnerable households. • Experience working with external partners and/or the voluntary sector. • Good working knowledge of MS Office and relevant systems. • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a relevant, customer facing role. • Ability and willingness to travel across the district, sometimes at short notice and during unsociable hours. Desirable: • Experience conducting PACE interviews and preparing cases for court.
