Job Description
Safran Seats, based in the UK, specializes in First Class and Business Class seating markets for wide-body aircraft, with engineering teams located in Cwmbran, Newport, Wales, and Brackley, England.
As the Lead IPT Manufacturing Engineer, you will lead a team of manufacturing engineers and technicians, ensuring product designs meet manufacturing and assembly requirements. A strong background in new product introduction within a manufacturing environment is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support design reviews, communicate issues, and ensure resolution.
2. Drive design for assembly/manufacture improvements, leading lessons learned sessions.
3. Collaborate with engineering to define development build requirements and oversee build processes.
4. Manage make vs. buy decisions, review strategies with procurement, and propose adjustments.
5. Develop production strategies with operations, including CAPEX estimation for tooling.
6. Implement lean methodologies to eliminate waste during design and manufacturing.
7. Ensure timely and quality compilation of APQP & PPAP documentation.
8. Complete PFMEA analyses and stay updated on aerospace standards.
9. Work with systems engineering to integrate validation and verification into project plans.
10. Identify and budget for tools and equipment, considering ergonomic and safety requirements.
11. Plan and achieve industrialization deliverables like PDR, CDR, test builds, PTR, and PPAP.
12. Resolve industrialization and production issues before BOM release.
13. Conduct root cause analyses and organize teams to resolve issues.
14. Review engineering drawings, considering tolerances affecting assembly.
15. Maintain accurate industrialization timing plans, manage resources, and mitigate critical path risks.
16. Ensure programs adhere to schedules and departmental gate reviews.
Job Requirements:
* B.Eng. in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering or HND via apprenticeship.
* Minimum 10 years in aerospace or automotive manufacturing.
* Proven leadership of technical teams.
* Experience with company and regulatory standards.
* Strong knowledge of design for manufacture and assembly, manufacturing processes, Lean Six Sigma, APQP & PPAP, PFMEA, and CAD software (including CATIA and interpretation of 2D drawings).
