Job Description
The Environment Agency is seeking a Marine Water Quality Officer to support evidence‑based decisions for marine water quality, modelling and data analysis. You will work as part of Operations Catchment Services, bringing technical expertise to assess impacts of discharges, model bathing water quality and nutrient loads in estuaries. The position is available in two forms – one permanent and one fixed‑term for 6 months.
Responsibilities
* Provide timely answers to technical questions for management and stakeholders.
* Review reports and summarise key information for decision‑making.
* Interpret monitoring data and model outputs to support environmental protection.
* Use data to inform water‑quality models.
* Summarise and communicate technical work, and raise issues when necessary.
* Build strong relationships across a dispersed team and with external partners.
* Apply sound records‑management principles.
* Use initiative to contribute to the team and wider organisation.
* Take on incident‑management duties, including training and support in response to incidents.
Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g., marine biology, environmental science, civil engineering).
* Experience in data analysis, with knowledge of modelling software and statistical tools.
* Proficiency with Excel, Access, R, Power BI, GIS and specialist packages such as Mike or Cormix.
* Comfortable working in a virtual team and travelling for national meetings.
* Professional membership (or working towards it) desirable.
