Overview
Our Cardiology team includes 15 consultants, 2 Specialist Doctors, 4 Specialty Doctors, 4 Specialty Registrars, 3 internal medicine trainees and 3 Foundation trainees. We invite applications for consultants in cardiology with a specialist interest and formal training in Heart Failure. The team provides modern facilities with 11 Coronary Care and 26 Cardiology beds, full non‑invasive and invasive cardiac facilities, bradycardia pacing, complex device and PCI services, and a nurse‑led heart failure service with community integration. Dual‑accredited clinicians will also receive GIM training time within the role.
Responsibilities
* Provide an acute cardiology service to the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust in partnership with consultant colleagues.
* Deliver inpatient cardiology care, including work in the 11‑bedded CCU and the 28‑bedded cardiology ward.
* Perform urgent and emergency cardiology duties at Pinderfields out of hours – currently assessed as 0.45 PA per week with weekday (1:15) and weekend (1:12) on‑call rotations.
* Participate in the two "cardiologist of the week" rotas on a 1‑in‑13 basis for the CCU and the cardiology ward.
* Support the Heart Failure Service, which includes clinic provision and in‑reach care to Pinderfields and community sites.
* Deliver and supervise outpatient clinics for heart failure and other cardiology patients.
* Provide specialist opinions for outlying patients and co‑ordinate care pathways, including "e‑consultation" with primary‑care colleagues.
* Supervise and teach junior staff, allocating SPA time according to rotas.
Qualifications and Person Specification
* Full GMC Registration with licence to practise.
* Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Cardiology or within 6 months of obtaining CCT (or CESR / equivalent) with sub‑specialty training in coronary intervention.
* Medical degree from a recognised medical school with MRCP or equivalent CCT (or CESR / equivalent) and sub‑specialty training in heart failure.
* Senior‑level experience to place on the Specialist Register, evidence of formal training in advanced heart failure and wide experience in general cardiology and acute assessment environments.
* Computer literate, experience with NHS procedures and practice.
* Eligibility to work in the UK; DBS clearance; driving licence.
* Strong analytical approach to problem solving, good time‑management, communication skills, flexibility and adaptability.
* Team‑player attitude, caring approach, willingness to learn internal systems and adhere to local policies.
* Physically able to carry out the duties as specified in the description and evidence competence.
