Overview
A Personal Assistant is required for a 67 year old female living in Llanelli near Sandy Waterpark. 10 hours and 30 minutes a week (preferred days: Monday, Wednesday and Friday; flexible). One working day will be 5 hours; the remainder split over the two days. Pay: £13.00 – £13.50 per hour. Driving is preferred; mileage can be claimed at 45p per mile (maximum miles per week = 20) if the PA is able to drive and transport the employer.
Main duties and responsibilities
1. Providing and supporting the employer to remain independent for personal care needs, including washing and toileting.
2. Supporting the employer with encouragement to gain and maintain independence.
3. Enabling the employer to interact socially in their community.
4. Providing support to the employer whilst shopping and attending activities of interest.
5. Supporting the employer to develop independent living skills.
6. Providing companionship in the employer’s home, including conversation and social interaction.
7. Encouraging the employer to attend appointments.
8. Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during working hours.
9. Carrying out other reasonable tasks during working hours, including meal preparation, assisting with paperwork and filing.
10. Ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act.
11. Be mindful of safeguarding issues and feedback any concerns to Carmarthenshire County Council (01267 228751) immediately.
12. Being responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority if the employer needs medical assistance.
Relationships and communication
1. Ability to develop a supportive and caring relationship with the employer.
2. Undertake duties in a friendly and helpful manner.
3. Able to contact people on behalf of the employer when necessary.
Working environment
Working in the employer’s home and supporting access to facilities and community activities.
Person specification – Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills
1. Caring, patient and friendly.
2. Responsible, reliable and honest.
3. Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work on own initiative.
4. Good local knowledge of the area where the employer lives.
5. Good time-keeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties as determined by the employer’s requirements.
6. Ability to keep simple records such as time recording.
7. Good communicator able to talk to people on behalf of the employer when required.
8. Able to develop long-term supportive and consistent relationships with the employer.
9. A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is required.
10. Be prepared to have business use on your vehicle insurance to use the vehicle within work hours.
11. Be prepared to undergo training to best meet the employer’s needs.
DBS and other requirements
A Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check/criminal record check is required for this post. This will be completed on acceptance of the job offer.
