Agency Technician – Post-Mortem Ward
Location: Leahurst Campus, Neston, Chester, CH64 7TE
Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM)
Contract Type: Temporary (via agency)
Start Date: ASAP
End Date: 19th December (with Christmas break)
Team Structure: Working within a team of 3 technicians
Role Overview
The University of Liverpool is seeking a skilled and reliable Agency Technician to support the Post-Mortem Ward at the Leahurst Campus. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of post-mortem procedures, including the preparation, sampling, and disposal of deceased animal carcasses.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in the setup of post-mortem rooms and preparation of carcasses for examination
* Support post-mortem procedures, including opening and sampling of carcasses
* Clean and disinfect workspaces and equipment to maintain hygiene and safety standards
* Manage biological and clinical waste in accordance with university and legal protocols
* Collaborate with the team to ensure efficient workflow and case management
* Maintain accurate records of samples and procedures
* Adhere to all health and safety regulations and biosecurity measures
Qualifications
* Previous experience in a post-mortem or similar laboratory/clinical environment
* Butchery skills or experience handling deceased carcasses
* Understanding of biological and clinical waste management
* Ability to work with sensitivity and professionalism in a post-mortem setting
* Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols
* Comfortable working in a physically demanding and emotionally sensitive environment
Additional Information
* This is a temporary agency role to cover a vacancy in the team
* The team typically consists of 3 technicians: 2 for reading/post-mortem and 1 for sampling and carcass management
* The role includes double time on holidays, 6 leave days, and bank holidays
* Work is based at the Leahurst Campus – hard to get to via public transport
