Overview
Teaching Assistant - Challenging Behaviour in Gateshead. Leader Education are recruiting a Teaching Assistant to join an alternative provision in Gateshead. This role supports pupils aged 5-16 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviours. The school provides a safe, supportive environment for students who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education, with a focus on reintegration wherever possible.
The goal is to help young people develop the confidence and skills needed to thrive in a mainstream setting when they are ready.
Responsibilities
* Support pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours
* Assist teachers in the classroom and with lesson preparation
* Implement de-escalation strategies and behaviour management techniques
* Provide empathy, patience and understanding when supporting pupils with complex needs
Requirements / Qualifications
* A current DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one
* Previous experience with challenging behaviour or SEMH
* The ability to implement de-escalation strategies and behaviour management techniques
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with pupils, colleagues, parents and other professionals
* Adaptability and initiative to accommodate various learning types and abilities
* High expectations and aspirations for young people and themselves
Contract & Benefits
* Location: Gateshead
* Contract Type: Long Term, Full-time; Monday–Friday, 8:30–16:30
