Job Summary
A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen in the Catering Services Department at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital (Winchester). The successful candidate will work as part of a team to ensure high standards of food service alongside outstanding customer service.
Responsibilities
* Supervise Catering Assistants/Kitchen Porters.
* Ensure high standards of customer service and food safety, maintaining cleaning and hygiene.
* Train and equip staff to complete all aspects of their role.
* Work with the Head Chef, Kitchen Manager, Admin team and Deputy Head of Catering to operate the patient meal service and kitchen porter service as a profitable business enterprise.
* Adopt a flexible approach to work, actively supporting staff through hands‑on working.
* Cover early and late shifts as required by the needs of the service.
Person Specification
Education – Essential
* Recognised Catering Qualification.
* Level 3 food safety or willingness to undertake.
* L2 English and Maths.
Experience – Essential
* Experience of supervising and managing staff.
* Knowledge of COSHH, Health and Safety or willingness to learn and undertake supplementary training.
* In depth knowledge of food safety and allergens or a willingness to learn.
* Experience in a customer‑facing role, delivering a high level of customer service.
Experience – Desirable
* Experience in a large‑scale food production environment (kitchen/restaurant).
* Experience in an NHS environment.
Skills and Ability – Essential
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Effective organisational skills and ability to manage time and prioritise work.
* Ability to work under pressure and manage challenging conversations and situations.
Skills and Ability – Desirable
* Supervisory Qualification.
