Job Description
Project Management Apprentice – London and South East team
AECOM is a global consulting firm working with clients to solve complex challenges and create lasting legacies. The Project Management Apprenticeship starts in September 2026 and is predominantly based in the London office. You will work under close supervision of senior colleagues, in a fast-paced environment meeting client and project deadlines.
As part of the Apprenticeship you will work towards a BSc (Hons) Construction Management with University College of Estate Management (UCEM). Following successful completion of the degree and experience requirements, you will sit the Assessment of Professional Competency (APC) set by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). Over the four-year programme you will have dedicated study days and access to a range of online and blended learning tools. You will also have the opportunity to undertake a six‑month rotation with a contractor partner, exposing you to a contracting and construction environment.

Typical PM Duties
Inception / Feasibility
* Coordinate and prepare initial viability studies
* Appoint project consultants, advise the client on appointment terms, fee structures and consultant responsibilities
* Prepare the Project Brief and Project Execution Plan
* Establish project processes including communication, reporting, correspondence, drawings distribution, authorisation procedures, and meeting structures
* Set the overall project budget and prepare project cashflows
Design
* Develop and maintain the master programme from start to finish
* Manage the design team and consultants, chair design meetings and record minutes
* Oversee design progress, monitor information production and review cost plans
* Report regularly on project progress to the client
* Coordinate required surveys, tendering and appointments
* Ensure timely submission of statutory approvals
* Track consultant and contractor progress against the master programme
* Assist with planning applications and negotiations with authorities
* Manage the project risk register
Procurement
* Develop the procurement strategy and contractor appointment procedures with the client
* Oversee tender document preparation and consultant coordination
* Manage tender distribution, interviews and analysis
Construction
* Chair and minute construction progress meetings
* Act as Employers Agent or Contract Administrator
* Manage change control and risk management processes
Handover, commissioning and building management maintenance
* Monitor preparation and acceptance of the CDM health and safety file, as‑built drawings, manuals, maintenance agreements and guarantees
* Coordinate project handover and logistics of possession
Completion
* Oversee and confirm final account agreements with consultants and contractors
* Establish procedures for defect notification, rectification and final inspection during the defect liability period
Sustainability
* Weave sustainable development solutions into daily activities, assisting clients in making better decisions around investment, corporate strategies, supply chains and procurement across all sectors
Social Value
* Embed social value principles into all work for clients to improve social outcomes that uplift individuals, communities and society in general
* Advance greater equity, ED&I within AECOM and beyond by building diverse talent, expanding understanding, enriching communities and thinking without limits

Qualifications
* Minimum 96 UCAS points (or equivalent)
* Minimum grade ‘C’ Maths & English GCSE (or equivalent)
* An interest in and desire to pursue a career in Project Management and the Built Environment
* An aptitude towards good logic, problem solving and strong organisational skills
* Commitment to continued education and improvement through on‑the‑job learning and training opportunities
* Ability to work virtually/remotely
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Practical, adaptable and enthusiastic
* English language proficiency with excellent communication skills
