Band6 Sleep Specialist Nurse / Physiotherapist/ ODP / Physiologist

TheRespiratory and Sleep Service in Leeds is home to innovative, advancedpractice which enhances the lives of patients with conditions such as MND,NMD, COPD and sleep disordered breathing. This is delivered by an awardwinning and research active team.
Anexciting opportunity has arisen within the Sleep Service with a specialistband 6 to work in both our CPAP service for treatment of Obstructive SleepApnoea and our Home Ventilation service. The role is based mainly inoutpatients with some inpatient work and home visits.
Theideal candidate has excellent communication and organisational skills and apassion for delivering the highest standard of care. You will be able to usethe latest technology to provide treatment while maintaining the human touch.Youre not only a team player but also able to work and think independently.Some expertise in respiratory & sleep medicine would be desirable but isnot essential. You must have a clean current driving licence and access to avehicle.

Main duties of the job
Thejob holder will demonstrate evidence-based care in the independent assessment,clinical examination, planning of care, clinical decision making, diagnosis,treatment, evaluation, health promotion and safe discharge of clients requiringhome ventilation, cough augmentation devices or CPAP devices within agreedprotocols.
Thejob holder will coordinate a multidisciplinary team of staff and implementclinician led care.
Theywill participate in mentorship and teaching programmes for multi-disciplinarygroups within the department.
Thejob holder will provide senior clinical support, advice and professionalleadership to a group of clinical areas.
Thejob holder will take charge of the unit as required
The job holder will work within an environment caringfor patients with sleep disordered breathing, respiratory or neuromuscularconditions requiring ventilatory support or cough augmentation.

Job responsibilities
Work within the Nursing andMidwifery Council (NMC) or Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) Code ofConduct.
To fulfil the requirements asdirected by the NMC or HCPC to maintain and revalidate registration
Deliver a high standard of patientfocused care in accordance with Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust guidelines andpolicies.
Provides, receives and interpretscomplex information to enable delivery of appropriate interventions of care
Independently assess, diagnose,prioritise, treat and safely discharge patients in accordance with agreedprotocols.
Act as a referral agent andco-ordinator of care provision.
Establishes effective multi-agencycollaboration across the primary/secondary interface to meet the needs of thepatients.
To promote heath giving healthpromotion advice when and where appropriate.
Act as a role model for thedevelopment of clinical skills and knowledge within the department team.
Maintain a safe working environment.
Support the line manager in settingand monitoring standards and seek to continuously improve standards and thequality of patient care, and promote evidence based best practice.
Work closely with Research andInnovation to promote research, disseminate outcomes and findings to supportevidence-based practice
To maintain accurate, detailedwritten records in accordance with the NMC and LTHT policies and guidelines.
Ensure the safe use and efficientmanagement of equipment and supplies.
Undertake audit/research asrequired.
Actively promote and use the LeedsImprovement Method to improve the quality and safety of the service
Service development in line withlocal/National initiatives.

Person Specification
Experience
* Significant post registration experience within speciality
* Working with a wide range of professionals including medical, nursing and management colleagues
* Insight into clinical speciality
* Understanding of quality improvement practice
* An understanding of the organisational structure and working practices of the organisation
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse /Physiotherapist
* Evidence of Post graduate education or equivalent professional development
* Recognised Practitioner qualification or evidence of completion of a competency based clinical assessment and examination of patients knowledge and skills package
* Recognised teaching/assessing qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience
Skills & behaviours
* Ability to communicate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
* Ability to teach, supervise and assess qualified and unqualified staff
* Able to training to groups of staff
* Time management skills and clinical leadership
* Able to clinically assess and examine patients
